Today Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu celebrated World Red Cross Day on 8th May, 2019 at Red Cross Bhawan Kachi Chawni Jammu, in capital cities and country towns across the nation to give a mark of respect to the founder of Red Cross Movement Sir Henry Dunant.
In a function at Jammu Head Quarters of the Indian Red Cross Society, Red Cross Day function started with a flag hoisting ceremony by Chief Guest Sh. Sanjeev Verma, IAS, Divisional Commissioner cum Chairman, Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu Region followed by Red Cross pledge and Prayer by the gathering led by students of Jain Higher Secondary School, Carmel Convent Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Jourian and Surinsar besides Red Cross volunteers.
Floral Tributes were also paid by Sh. Sanjeev Verma, IAS, Dr. Bharat Bhushan, Director Social Welfare, Mr. J.K Sudan Joint Director School Education, Mrs. Parikar Addl. Director Health Services, Sh. Ajay Salaan, District Social WelfareOfficer, Sh. Dinesh Gupta, Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu Region, Sh. Neeraj Anand, Vikram Gujral, Surinder Mahajan, Dr. Ranbhushan Singh, Sh. S.C Bali, Dr. Rajinder Thappa Members Executive Committee, IRCS Jammu Region, S/Sh. Jugal Mahajan, Mahesh Gupta, R. Vijay Magotra, Vijay Jain, Rajinder Singh, O.P. Gupta, Bharat Gandhi, Former MLA and Dr. Harish Kalla.
No. of Items were presented which include Patriotic Group dance by the children of NGO Aaradhna-A Ray of Hope, items by Students of Carmel Convent School, Kunjwani jammu, Gojri Dance by student Govt. H.S.S. Saruinsar, Dogri Dance by campers Govt. H.S.S. Jourian.
The Chief Guest, Sanjeev Verma congratulated on the occasion and briefed that, there is much more scope of doing activities in a coordinated manner and more scientifically so that we reach and cover the maximum number of people who need Red Cross support.
He said that this is a unique organization which with the Govt. support takes cares of every section of society especially the sick and the suffering and sought cooperation of all departments and members of public in reaching out to the unreached. He said that in a hospital team will visit to help the poor sick and suffering. Mr. Dinesh Gupta, Secretary brief about the activities being carried out and the future plan of action. He emphasizes that Red Cross is going to start a Health screening cum treatment of the students livelihood project, First-Aid for border area residents




On the eve of “World Red Cross Day – 8th May, 2019”, series of programmes are being organized in the entire Jammu Province as per the calendar of activities suggested by the Divisional Commissioner cum Chairman, IRCS, Jammu Region. The winners at District level competitions of the Painting Competition, Symposium and Paper Reading Contest all finally participated in the Province Level Competitions held at Red Cross Bhawan and at City Palace, Jammu on today 6th May, 2019. Theme of the Painting Competition was “Indian Army the Savior of Nation” whereas the Theme for Symposium was “WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT RED CROSS’ and the Theme for the Paper Reading Contest n as “WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT RED CROSS- WAYS AND MEANS FOR IMPROVING ITS WORKING FURTHER . ‘The Painting and Symposium activity was divided in three groups:
1st Group – Students from 11th & 12th Class
2nd Group – Students from 9th & 10th Class
3rd Group – Students from 6th to 8th Class
The participants were from different schools of Districts Jammu, Kathua & Udhampur.
Ms. Samya Sharma, Ms. Hanansi Devi and Ms. Sonia (Group I), Ms. Isha Thakur, Ms. Shriti Sharma and Ms. Tamanna (Group II) and Ms. Vanshika, Ms. Vineet and Ms. Nikita Koul (Group III) were declared 1st, 2nd & 3rd Prize winners respectively from Symposium Competition.
Likewise Ms. Jyoti Sharma, Ms. Meenakshi Sharma and Mr. Kuldeep Singh were declared 1st, 2nd & 3rd Prize winners respectively in Paper Reading Competition.
Ms. Divyansh Bharti, Ms. Ragini Tiwari and Ms. Shewta and Ms. Rititka Pathak (Group I) , similarly, Ms. Amrita Kumar, Ms. Shabhnam Sharma and Mr. Sukhdev Singh (Group ii), Mr. Aditya Kumar, Ms. Palak Bahsin and Ms. Ritika (Group iii) were declared 1st, 2nd and 3rd Prize winners respectively in painting competition.
The programme was conducted under the supervision of Sh. Dinesh Gupta, Hony. Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu Region. He was assisted by Sh. O.P. Gupta and Sh. Rajinder Singh. Other who extended helping hand to the whole programme were S/Shri Sh. Shashank Rawal, R.Vijay Magotra and Preet Dutta.,
Prominent among those who were also present to grace the occasion included Jt. Director Education J.K. Sudan, Dr. T.R. Raina, S. Dalir Singh, Dr. Renu Gupta, ex principal Army School (Judges for Paper Reading Competition), Ms Monika, Ms. Indubala, Ms. Taranjeet Kour, Smt. Puneet Kour, Smt. Dr. Sheetal Singh, Sh. As a part of World Red Cross Day Celebrations, Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu Region organises various Medical Check up Camps in slum areas ( Viraj Bal Bhawan School, Khanpur, Nagrota, Govt. Middle School, Tange wali Gali,Kachi Chawni, Jammu, Canal Road for Morning Walkers and at Red Cross Attendants Sarai, Maheshpura Chowk, Jammu during the week to commemorate the Birth Anniversary of “ Sir Henry Dunant” the founder of Red Cross Movement. The details of the camps are as under:-
- At Viraj Bal Bhawan, KhanPur, Nagrota, 152 patients ( general, Eye & Immunization)
- Govt. Middle School , Tangewali Gali, Kachi Chawni, Jammu 50 students ( Eye)
- Canal Road, Jammu, 120 Diabetes detections tests conducted of Morning Walkers of the areas of Bhagwati Nagar, ShaktiNagar, Bakshi Nagar and Talab Tillo, Jammui
- Red Cross Attendants Sarai, Mahespura Chowk, Jammu more than 200 patients of Ortho, Neuro , General, Eye and Diabetes patients in collaboration with Hartej Hospital, Amritsar.
In the above said camps, Dr.Munish Manocha, Sr. Consultant of Ortho from Max Hospital, Amritsar, Dr. Amit, Neuro Surgeon from Hartej Hospital, Amritsar assisted by Mr. Arjun, Multipurpose Assistant , Dr. Ranbhusan Singh, Anaesthetist Specialist, Dr. Kavita Nijohn of Red Cross Dispensary, Jammu assisted by Smt. Kanchan Devi, Supervisor Pharmacist, Smt. Tripta Devi, LHV,Sh. Surinder Vermani, Supervisor Lab. Technician, Smt. Monica Sharma, Sr. Lab. Technician, Sh. Mohd Anwar, Sr. Lab. Technician , Sh. Anil Kumar, Supervisor Ophthalmic Technician and Sh. Kuldeep Bhat, Sr. Ophthalmic Technician of Red Cross rendered their services for the purpose.
During these camps, a motivational lecture was also delivered by its Hony. Secretary in presence of the gathering including S/Sh. Sita Ram Sharma, Dinesh Gupta ,S.C. Bali, Member Executive Committee , IRCS, Jammu Region and Sh. K.L.Verma a Social Worker/ Life Member.
Further, an impressive function was also organised by Carmel Convent School, Kunjwani, Jammu in which Sh. R.C.Puri, Hony. Secretary was the Chief Guest on the occasion. While speaking on the occasion he appreciated the School authority for organising the World Red Cross Day and hoped that this noble mission shall be carried out in future too. Sh. S. C. Bali, Member Executive Committee , IRCS, Jammu Region was also present on the occasion.
These camps were organised under the guidance and supervision of Sh. R.C.Puri, Hony. Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu Region.

Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu celebrated “World Red Cross Day” on 8th May, 2014 to commemorate the birth anniversary of the founder of Red Cross Movement “Sir Jean Henry Dunant” the First Nobel prize winner with great enthusiasm and humanitarian zeal. Sh. Shantmanu –IAS, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu (Chairman Red Cross Regional Committee, Jammu ) being the Chief Guest was received by the Officers of Red Cross and the distinguished dignitaries at Red Cross Bhawan, Jammu. Later on the programme started with the flag hoisting of Red Cross by the Chief Guest in presence of the Executive members of the Red Cross Regional Committee, Jammu , District Red Cross Committee, Jammu and distinguished guests and students of private Govt. colleges/ Schools, officials of Red Cross and Childline , Jammu. The students recited the Red Cross Song and took pledge to strive to give assistance and protection to all those who suffer, wherever they may be. Later on the Chief Guest flagged off the YRC students rally at Red Cross Bhawan, Jammu which proceed to Rajinder Chowk, Jammu by foot and boarded buses from there to Police Auditorium, Gulshan Ground, Jammu and reached there at 9.50 a.m. The Chief Guest(Divisional Commissioner ) Guest of Honour (Deputy Commissioner) was presented with bouquet . The programme started with lightning of the ceremonial lamp by the Chief Guest and the other dignitaries. Later on a documentary depicting this years Red Cross Theme “ My Red Cross Story “. Was presented to the august gathering. Sh.Ajeet Kumar Sahu- IAS –Deputy Commissioner, Jammu (Chairman District Red Cross Branch, Jammu ) in its address welcomed the Chief Guest , distinguished guests, dignitaries, and the gatherings for making to this event. He also apprised about the various schemes and activities of Red Cross. A sensational performance by Mythya Band which made the audience spell bound was appreciated by one and all. Anne Vaid –student of Govt. Girls Hr. Sec. School, Mubarak Mandi, Jammu gave his/her thoughts about this years World Red Cross Day Theme “My Red Cross Story” which was appreciated by one and all which was followed by a cultural item presented by Jodhamal Public School, Jammu. The Chief Guest while addressing the distinguished gathering emphasized upon all the participants to inculcate among themselves `the zeal to work for alleviation of human sufferings irrespective `of Caste, colour, creed and religion keeping in view the seven fundamental principles of Red Cross in mind and the sacrifices made by the man “Sir Jean Henry `Dunant “.
