Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu Region in its special drive for awareness and detection of Diabetes among the General masses organized 4th Diabetes camp today on 9th December, 2016 in the wee hrs of morning at Channi Himmat , Jammu where the morning walkers and other persons from civil society were provided awareness about Diabetes , its causes and effects on the human health and the remedies for leading a healthy life. The sugar fasting tests of 80 numbers of persons were conducted on spot. The Camp was organized under the directions of Dr. Pawan Kotwal, IAS, Chairman, Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu Region by the Red Cross team under the Supervision of Sh. R.C. Puri, Hony. Students and Faculty of SMVD College of Nursing, Kakryal, Katra visit Red Cross Bhawan, Jammu dscn2596 dscn2586

Seventy Students and five Faculty members of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi College of Nursing Kakryal, Katra (J&K) visited Red Cross Bhawan, Jammu today the 8th Oct. 2016 to acquaint themselves with Red Cross Society and to know about its core activities.

They were welcomed by Mr. Dinesh Gupta, Hony. Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu and his team. Thereafter, a Documentary on the “Role of Red Cross Society in war as well as peace time” was shown to them.

Dr. Simriti, Medical Officer, Red Cross Dispensary assisted by Miss Neha Thakur, Red Cross Volunteer delivered lecture on First Aid which is recommended for every person for providing immediate help to injured during any eventuality/accidents and save precious lives. Sh. S.C. Bali, Sr. Counsellor of IRCS, Jammu briefed them about the Fundamentals of Red Cross i.e. Health – Service and Friendship.

Mr. Gupta, explained about how this noble Organization came into being World-Wide more particularly in India. He also briefed them about its constitutional frame work and “What it is, what it Does and how one can help others” who deserves care and protection.

IRCS and Reliance Communication, Jammu organised a Voluntary Blood Donation Camp
Indian Red Cross Society, Region Jammu and Reliance Communication, Jammu organised a Voluntary Blood Donation Camp on 27-12-2014 in the premises of Reliance Communication in collaboration with Blood Transfusion and Medicines, Govt. Medical College, Jammu and J&K State AIDS Control Society, Jammu wherein more than 40 Volunteers of the Reliance Communication, Jammu donated their Blood. Sh. R.C. Puri, Hony. Secretary, IRCS, Region Jammu who was present on the occasion delivered a motivational lecture on the importance of Voluntary Blood Donation and impressed upon the gathering to donate Blood for Saving precious lives. In continuation with the Sugar Detection Campaign drive, Indian Red Cross Society, Region Jammu organized a Free Sugar Detection Camp at Fountain Area of Jammu University Campus on 5th Dec., 2014 at 7.00 A.M. wherein more than 100 persons especially morning walkers were examined by Red Cross team headed by Dr. Rakesh Kakkar, Sr. Diabetologist, Dr. Kavita Nijhon, Medical Officer, Sh. Surinder Vermani, Sup. Lab. Tech., Mrs. Monika Sharma, Sr. Lab. Tech. and Sh. Sanjay Dhar, Sr. Lab. Tech. The aim of this campaign is to make more and more people aware about this disease and its remedies. Sh. R.C. Puri, Hony. Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Region Jammu monitored the said Camp.
IRCS with Nirvana Academy organized a function for Disabled Students at Amar Singh Club, Jammu
Indian Red Cross Society, Region Jammu in collaboration with Nirvana Academy organized a function especially for Disabled Students of different school of Jammu at Amar Singh Club, Jammu today 3rd Dec., 2014 and in order to facilitate them with Awards and Medals of their Talent on the Eve of “International Disability Day”. Sh. Shantmanu, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu (Chairman, Indian Red Cross Society, Region Jammu) was the Chief Guest on the occasion and inaugurated the function. Among others who were present on the occasion included Sh. R.C. Puri, Hony. Secretary, IRCS, Region Jammu, Sh. Umesh Sharma, Sh. Aushutosh, and Sh. Hitesh Badyal from Nirvana Academy, Jammu. Besides this Relief Items in shape of Blankets and Kitchen Sets etc. were distributed by the IG, BSF, Jammu in presence of Sh. R.C. Puri, Hony. Secretary, IRCS, Jammu Region among the War Widows of BSF Personnel at Frontier Head Quarter, BSF, Paloura, Jammu on the Eve of “International Disability Day”.
RED CROSS Promotes Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in School.
Continuing its efforts further for promoting Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a team of Indian Red Cross Society, Region Jammu headed by Sh. R.C. Puri, Hony. Secretary visited Viraj Bal Bhawan School, Khanpur (Nagrota), Jammu run by Smt. Raj Bharati, Viraj Kala Kendra, Jammu and distributed Sanitation Items such as Tooth Paste, Tooth Brush, Soap and other Stationery Items viz. notebooks, pencils, erasers, sharpeners and eatable items i.e. Biscuits among the poor and needy students belong to the labourer’s families on the spot and apprised them the importance of personal hygiene and to keep cleanliness of their houses, schools and surroundings and boosted their morale in presence of school authorities. The Incharge of the school appreciated the efforts of the Red Cross Society and hoped to continue such kind of assistance in future also.
Red Cross holds 2nd Diabetes Awareness Camp.
To alleviate the Human sufferings and also to carry forward the Humanitarian Services, Indian Red Cross Society, Region Jammu organized 2nd Diabetes Awareness Camp on the eve of World Diabetes Day at Green Belt Park, Channi Himmat, Jammu on 14-11-2014. Free Blood Sugar Detection Tests of Morning Walkers were conducted on the spot by a team of Red Cross Lab. Technicians under the supervision of Dr. Kavita Nijhon, Medical Officer Red Cross Dispensary assisted by Sh. Surinder Vermani, Sup Lab. Tech, Sh. Sanjay Dhar, Sr. Lab. Tech, Mrs. Monika Sharma, Sr. Lab. Tech and Sh. Joginder Kumar, Pharmacist . More than 80 tests were conducted and the general public particularly Morning Walkers were awarded about the silent killing disease (Diabetes) and its preventive measures as the menace of diabetes is fastly gripping the people in large. The camp was organized under the supervision of its Hony. Secretary Shri R.C.Puri. The prominent among those who were present on the occasion included Mrs. Navneet Kour and Sh. Sita Ram Sharma, Executive Members of Indian Red Cross Society, Region Jammu.

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was organized today in GCW, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu by Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu Region in collaboration with NSS Unit of the College. The Abhiyan was launched jointly by Sh. R.C. Puri, Hony. Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Region Jammu and Dr. Kiran Bakshi, Principal of the College alongwith Sh. Sita Ram Sharma, Dr. Renu Nanda, Smt. Navneet Kour Members, IRCS, Region Jammu, wherein faculty members , Incharge NSS Unit, NSS Volunteers and other students participated to clean the college premises. The Principal and Hony. Secretary, Red Cross dwelt upon the importance of cleanliness to save human lives from different diseases besides giving good face look to the surroundings. They exhorted upon the College staff and students to ensure regular cleanliness of college premises and its surroundings and said that Swachh Bharat Abhiyan will be a regular activity in the College.
Red Cross and Blood Transfusion Department organizes Symposium
As a part of celebration on “National Voluntary Blood Donation Day, 2014”, Indian Red Cross Society, Region Jammu and PG Department of Blood Transfusion and Medicines, Govt. Medical College, Jammu organized a Symposium on 27th Sept., 2014 at Red Cross Auditorium, Red Cross Bhawan, Kachi Chawni, Jammu on the Theme of the Voluntary Blood Donation – ‘A Need of the Hour’ wherein students of Govt./Private Colleges of Jammu viz. GGM Science College, MIER College, K.C. Law College Jammu, Govt. MAM College, Commerce College, GCW Gandhi Nagar/Parade Jammu, Govt. College of Education Jammu & Govt. Polytechnic Colleges for Boys and Women Jammu participated. The Symposium was organized just to hear from the students their view point about Voluntary Blood Donation and at the same time to incalculate to them the idea of Voluntary Blood Donation for saving precious lives. The Symposium was inaugurated by Sh. R.C. Puri, Hony. Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Region Jammu who also threw light on the importance of Voluntary Blood Donation and urged upon the students to donate blood voluntarily for the Humanitarian cause. On this occasion, Dr. Vijay Sawhney, Head of the Department, Blood Transfusion Medicine, Govt. Medical College, Jammu made a brief note on the importance of Voluntary Blood Donation and also clarified the doubts about the Voluntary Blood Donation, if any. Dr. Kamaljit Singh, Associate Prof., Department of Blood Transfusion, GMC, Jammu and Dr. Naveen Akhtar were also spoke on the importance of the Voluntary Blood Donation. The students from the different Colleges spoke on the theme and selected by the Jury Members adjudged Ms. Meenakshi, GCW, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu 1st Prize Winner, Mr. Anchal Singh, Govt. MAM College, Jammu bagged 2nd Position whereas Mr. Kamal Saini, GGM Science College, Jammu & Ms. Aneet Kamal Kour, GCW, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu shared 3rd Position respectively. Later light refreshment was served by the Red Cross to the participants.
Red Cross Mela-cum-Raffle Draw 2014 in December
Emphasizing revival of JRC and YRC in government schools and universities, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Shantmanu on Thursday exhorted upon the Red Cross Society to raise massive awareness among the people about its activities. "Dissemination of services of world's most philanthropic organization is a key component to ensure optimum benefit to the people who other- wise are deprived of the same" the Div Com maintained. He was chairing a meeting of newly nominated members of Indian Red Cross Society, Region Jammu. The Div Com, who is also chairman of Regional Red Cross Society Jammu had a detailed review of activities of the Society besides discussing multi pronged strategies envisaging further streamlining working of this vital humanitarian unit. The issues deliberated upon in the meeting were establishment of Red Cross Blood Bank, Management, repair and renovation of Attendant Sarai, activation of district red cross committees, streamlining deployment of regional and district ambulances, upgradation of RCS Medical units, renovation of office complex of Indian Red Cross Society Jammu and issues pertaining to State Branch and ICRC. Terming district level RCS units as backbone of Regional Society, the Div Com stressed on the need of equipping these units with proper infrastructural edifice and manpower to make them more vibrant. Shantmanu directed the RCS members to start preparations for Red Cross Mela-cum-Raffle Draw- 2014 which is tentatively scheduled to be held in the second week of December 2014.
Free Medical Checkup Camp at Jhiri Jammu
Indian Red Cross Society, Region Jammu organized a Free Medical Checkup Camp at Jhiri Jammu in collaboration with Bee Enn General Hospital, Jammu on 26-04-2014 to provide Free Medical Checkup and medicines to the needy patients. A team of Voluntary Doctors from Bee Enn Charitable and other Institutions including Dr. Kushlaya Samyal from Bee Enn General Hospital, Dr. Kavita Nijhon, from Red Cross Dispensary, Dr. Vanya Dental Surgeon and Dr. Arundati Physiotherapist, participating in the Camp and examined the patients for various ailments (Gynae, General, Dental problems, Eyes & Ortho) besides Sh. Kuldeep Bhat, Sr. Ophthalmic Tech and Sh. Sohan Lal, Pharmacist and rendered their services. About 250 patients were examined and free medicines were also provided to the poor by the Indian Red Cross Society, Region Jammu & Bee Enn General Hospital. The Camp was organized under the Supervision of Sh. R.C. Puri, Hony. Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Region Jammu.
Painting Competition
A programme of painting Competition was organized by J&K State Pollution Control Board in collaboration with Nirvana Academy, Mindscape Environmental & Educational Trust and Indian Red Cross Society, Region Jammu to commemorate the World Earth Day, 2014 at Central Park Bahu Plaza, Jammu on 22-04-2014 with the message of this year theme – “Green Cities” in which diverse activities related to the Art Work/Poster making/painting competition were carried out among professional, amateur and budding artistes. Sh. Vinod Ranjan, Chairman J&K Pollution Control Board was the Chief Guest and Sh. Shantmanu, IAS, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu was the Guest of Honour besides Smt. Shushma Chouhan, Vice Chairman, Jammu Development Authority and Sh. R.C. Puri, Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Region Jammu were the Special Guests on the occasion.
First Aid Training
Indian Red Cross Society, Region Jammu imparted First Aid Training under the umbrella of St. John Ambulance Association, Regional Centre, Jammu to the employees of M/S Sun Pharma Laboratories, Bari Brahmana, Jammu w.e.f 15th April, 2014 to 21st April, 2014  by Dr. Rohini Bhan, Medical Officer which was assisted by Sh. Sohan Lal, Pharmacist, Red Cross Dispensary, Jammu. During the Course of the said Training the main thrust was how to prevent them from all types of risks while handling the chemicals in the laboratories and to help the most vulnerable people affected by it. Sh. R.C. Puri, Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Region Jammu while interacting the participants gave a detailed background of the Red Cross Movement and emphasized to focus on the First Aid Training Course with full zeal and zest so as to acquaint themselves properly to be able to extend the require help at the time of need and also appreciated the role of Sun Pharma by holding Blood Donation Camp recent past. Sh. Kashkari, Head Human Resource Sun Pharma and Sh. Sourabh Kapoor thanked the Red Cross for providing Medical team for the above said course and also requested to Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Region Jammu Sh. R.C. Puri to hold such type of camp in Sun Pharma Unit Samba  and hoped that the same gesture will also continue in near future also.
Executive Secretaries meeting
A meeting of the Executive Secretaries of District Red Cross Societies of Jammu Region was held under the Chairmanship of Sh. R.C. Puri, Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Region Jammu on 22-04-2014 in the Red Cross Bhawan, Kachi Chawni, Jammu in which threadbare discussions were held with regard to the problems being faced in implementation of the Red Cross Schemes by the Society at their respective Distt. Head Quarters besides other allied issues viz, Construction of Red Cross Bhawan at District level for which the concerned Deputy Commissioner (Chairman, District Red Cross Society) will be approached for identifying the State Land for the said purpose, raising of funds, arrangements for celebration of world Red Cross Day on 8th May, 2014, strengthening of Disaster management wings at District level for meeting out challenges during Natural Calamities. It was unanimously decided that a quarterly meeting should be held for monitoring the work of the District Red Cross Committees to build up the relation between Districts and Regional Committee.
