Indian Red Cross Society, J&K-UT conducted comprehensive First-Aid Training at Red Cross Bhawan, Kachi Chawni, Jammu w.e.f 19th to 22nd September, 2023 where a diverse group of drivers and others were equipped with life saving skills.
The training aimed to empower students with the knowledge and confidence to respond effectively in emergency situations. Participants learned critical techniques to provide immediate assistance and support until professional medical help arrives.
The training was imparted by Dr. Kavita Nijhon Verma and Dr. Aasia Noor, Medical Officers, IRCS, JK-UT and were assisted by Smt. Kanchan Devi and Sh. Ravi Kant Magotra, Sup. Pharmacists. The training focused on the basics of first aid, and how to provide first aid in wounds, bleeding, musculoskeletal injury, burns, heatstroke, poisoning, bites, drowning, fainting, seizures and unconsciousness. All the participants had hands-on experience of dressing the wound, applying different types of bandages, splinting the injured body part, providing cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and transferring the victim.
Besides that, a special Guest Lecture on Yoga and Meditation was included in the training by Ms. Manjari, State Head, Childline Indian Foundation which was very fruitful as it helps to improve a person’s mental well being as well as reduces stress. She also briefed on how Childline works for the protection of rights of the children from age group 0 to 18.
Apart from this, a new initiative has been introduced in the training in which free eye check-up of all the participants is being done so that it becomes easier for them to take their heavy driving license.
In the end, Mr. Rohit Khajuria, General Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, J&K-UT interacted with the participants and said that the organization remains committed to promoting the importance of first aid education and looks forward to continuing its impactful initiatives throughout the UT. The training ended with the distribution of Provisional Certificates.
