Jammu: Indian Red Cross Society, J&K Chapter today celebrated the International Volunteer Day, 2019 at Red Cross Bhawan, Jammu to to celebrate the power and potential of volunteerism with the theme “Volunteer for an inclusive future”. Mr. Kifayat Hussain Rizvi (IAS Retd.), General Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, J&K attended the event as Chief Guest and Mr. Dinesh Gupta, Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu Region was the Guest of Honour.
In his welcome address Mr. Imran Muzaffar welcomed all the dignitaries, guests & volunteers. Mr. Muzaffar expressed gratitude to all the volunteers associated with Indian Red Cross Society in J&K and serving people in many ways and wished them a Happy International Volunteer Day.
The dignitaries present during the occasion include Dr. Ranbushan Singh, Member, Regional Red Cross Committee, Mr. Rajinder Singh, Mr. O.P. Gupta, Ms. Uma Sharma, Mr. Kamal Kishore, Mr. Vijay Magotra, Dr. Shelly Mahajan, representatives from Tawi Welfare Society & Gram Vikas Sangh, volunteers & staff of Indian Red Cross Society.
In his speech, Mr. Kifayat Hussain Rizvi, General Secretary, IRCS-J&K Chapter said that the spirit of volunteering is engrained in the nature of human being irrespective of creed, colour or religion Those millions of vounteers who commit their time & skills for betterment of human beings, are basically inspired by this instinct. When they volunteer, they help to improve the lives of others. And when they volunteer, they also gain a greater sense of belonging to their communities”. Further, the General Secretary said, “On International Volunteer Day, we stand in respect of more than a billion Volunteers who build Resilient Communities around the world. As we recognize the collective efforts of volunteers globally, we reflect on the multitude of actions taken locally to help people, communities and neighbourhoods become better prepared to respond to the unexpected, and better positioned for a more sustainable future”. The General Secretary lauded the efforts of volunteers associated with Red Cross Movement.
Mr. Dinesh Gupta in his words stressed for the need of volunteering with Indian Red Cross Society. Mr. Gupta expressed the need of giving back to society by volunteering and in his speech he encouraged the youth to associate with the Red Cross Movement for delivering humanitarian service to the needy.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Mr. Dinesh Gupta, Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu Region. Mr. Gupta thanked all the participants in general and the volunteers in particular who always remain at disposal within their communities.
